Nokia revealed 5 new phones at CES 2022, and they're all under $250

Nokia revealed 5 new phones at CES 2022, and they're all under $250

https://youtu.be/RO1xOtX2ylo

As the iPhone and top-end Android phones continue to get more and more expensive, we're always keeping an eye out for more affordable options for people who don't need or want to spend multiple paychecks on a single piece of tech. At CES 2022, HMD Global, maker of Nokia phones, has delivered the goods.

The Finnish company announced Wednesday that five new phones will launch in the US in the coming months and that not a single one will cost more than $250. In the lineup will be a 5G phone, three 4G devices and one feature phone -- ideal as a starter phone, a second phone or for anyone who requires a more basic model.

At the top end of the new portfolio are the 5G Nokia G400 priced at $239, the 4G Nokia G100 costing $149 and the $119 4G Nokia C200, all of which run on Android and will be available in spring or early summer. At the even more affordable end are the Nokia C100, a 4G Android phone costing $99, and the retro Nokia 2760 flip phone, priced at $79. Both will be available in the next two months.

"Research shows that customers are looking for the best value for their mobile phone budget -- including a large display, long battery life and high-quality camera experience -- and Nokia phones deliver on every element, making them a trusted and reliable phone for consumers and partners in the United States," said HMD Global CEO Florian Seiche in a statement.

Multiple Nokia phones are already available in the US, but HMD's biggest customer base has always been in Europe and Africa -- perhaps until now. This is the company's biggest expansion into the US yet, and will see it add two new carriers, Dish Wireless and Consumer Cellular, to its partner lineup, which already includes T-Mobile and TracFone. It's very much hoping to capture the lower end of the market with reliable, secure, affordable phones as competitors such as Apple and Samsung keep gunning for the high end.

अमरीकी हथियार तालिबान बेच रहा पाकिस्तानी आर्मी और अतिवादियों को ? News

Afghanistan Taliban capture Kunduz airbase seize India-gifted MI-24 attack helicopter

The Taliban has reportedly seized one of the four attack helicopters donated by India to Afghanistan in 2019, after they overpowered the airport in Kunduz, which is located in the northern province. The Taliban were seen on social media posing next to an Mi-24 attack helicopter, the livemint reported.India had gifted the four Mi-24V attack choppers to the Afghan Air Force along with three Cheetah Light Utility Helicopters. The attack helicopters were reportedly given as part of an agreement between Afghanistan and Belarus, which was financed by New Delhi. This apart, India also imparted training to Afghan aircrews. The seizure of the Indian choppers comes as the Taliban intensifies its offensive in the strife-torn region as foreign troops complete their withdrawal. The rebels have now captured seven to eight provincial capitals. The loss of Faizabad, capital of the northeastern province of Badakhshan, was the latest setback for the Afghan government, which has been struggling to stem the momentum of Taliban assaults as US-led foreign forces leave. The US intelligence said it would take just about 90 days for the Taliban to take over Afghanistan capital, Kabul. The new assessment of how long Kabul could stand was a result of the rapid gains the Taliban had been making around the country. The capture of the Indian chopper also comes at a time when the Afghan security forces sought robust air support from India. The call for help came as the Ashraf Ghani government is concerned that the Taliban will most definitely escalate their level of violence once the US forces withdraw troops completely by August 31.In the wake of the military offensive by the Taliban, India has asked all Indian nationals to immediately return home. In its latest security advisory, New Delhi asked all Indian nationals visiting, staying and working in Afghanistan to keep themselves updated on the availability of commercial flights from various parts of Afghanistan and make immediate travel arrangements to return home before air travel is discontinued.Indian companies operating in Afghanistan are strongly advised to immediately withdraw their Indian employees out of project sites in Afghanistan before air travel services get discontinued. Indian nationals working for Afghan or foreign companies in Afghanistan should immediately request their employer to facilitate their travel from project sites to India. The Taleban taken 2 provincial capitals in Afghanistan on Sunday, consistent with Afghan officers, the most recent to be overtaken by the insurgents since the beginning of a sweeping military offensive in might.

With the capture of Taleqan, the capital of the northeastern province of Takhar, and therefore the strategically necessary town Kunduz simply hours earlier, the Taleban currently have a hold on four provincial capitals across the country.

With a population of concerning 375,000, Kunduz is taken into account a significant hub for social science and culture. Its location — roughly two hundred miles from the capital of capital of Afghanistan — conjointly makes town a major military prize.

Takhar conjointly has explicit significance to AN alliance of northern anti-Taliban fighters, United Nations agency joined the U.S.-led coalition to oust the Taleban at the beginning of the war in 2001. 2 Afghan lawmakers told the AP that the capital fell to the Taleban earlier Sunday.

The U.S. withdrawal is obtaining nearer

The Taleban offensive comes because the U.S. nears a point set earlier this year to finish its military operation within the country by the tip of August — simply back of the twentieth day of the Sept. 11 attacks. concerning 650 U.S. troops stay within the country — down from a peak of ninety eight,000 in 2011, consistent with the U.S. Department of Defense.

"What we tend to area unit seeing in Kunduz immediately is extremely the same as what is been happening in Zaranj and Sheberghan — the opposite 2 provincial capitals the Taleban took," Kabul-based journalist Ali Latifi told NPR.

The Afghan government denies the Taliban's gains

While the Taleban has discharged photos, videos and different materials claiming a takeover of major government compounds, prisons and different key locations in Kunduz, the Afghan government in capital of Afghanistan denies that Taleban forces had taken town, consistent with The Associated Press.

Neeraj Chopra wins palm in javelin, initial athletics gold for Republic of India in athletic contest

It was a historic day for the nation as Neeraj Chopra’s javelin pierced the Tokyo night sky to herald a new dawn for Indian sports. August 7 of 2021, dateline Tokyo, will be etched in Indian hearts for eternity as the 23-year-old from Haryana won India’s first track and field gold medal at the Olympics.

This was also India’s first gold medal since shooter Abhinav Bindra’s won the 10m air rifle gold in 2008. With Neeraj’s gold on the penultimate day, India ended its campaign at the XXXII Olympiad with seven medals – the country’s best performance at the Summer Games.

Neeraj dropped the javelin ahead of his first throw, as he tried to fix his throwing belt at the Tokyo Olympic Stadium. But that was the only false step he took this evening, as he sent the javelin soaring, a minute later, to a distance of 87.03m.

His throw thrust him into an early lead. His managed 87.58m with his second attempt. He knew this was special and raised his hands in celebration as soon as he released the javelin. No one bettered his mark, though two Czech Republic athletes gave him and India a few anxious moments.

Neeraj’s coach Klaus Bartonietz said the athlete’s ability to bend his body like a dhanush (bow), transfer his body elasticity and weight into the javelin, and release the spear at 34-36 degrees was the secret of his success. As technical as it sounds, this is what helped Neeraj perfect his release angle and get distance on his throws.

The gold medal-favourite, Germany’s Johannes Vetter endured a tough start and managed a best of 82.52m. Vetter was eliminated from the competition after three throws and finished ninth.

Neeraj had a third throw of 76.79m and he fouled on the next two attempts, but it did not matter.

The last word of advice Neeraj got from coach Bartonietz was: “Maje karo (have fun).”

Neeraj, though, was barely able to sit down as the competition moved into the last three throws. He shadow-practised throughout in a corner, cheered on by the 20-odd Indian contingent in the stands.

But by 8 JST, the field had thinned out and only the two Czech Republic throwers – Jakub Vadlejch (86.67m) and Vitezslav Vesely (85.44) – remained.

“These guys had me frightened until the very last throw,” Neeraj said later, flanked by the two Czech throwers at the press meet. His last throw of 84.24m was not his best of the night, but he had sealed the best moment of his life.

The bandana-wearing athlete from Panipat in Haryana gave 1.3 billion people a reason to celebrate, a reason to cry, and a reason to unite. Wearing the medal, which many in India have yearned for, Neeraj remembered the legendary Milkha Singh, who finished fourth in the 1960 Rome Olympics.

Neeraj dedicated his medal to Milkha, who passed away in June. “When we were in Kourtane, Milkha Singh ji passed away and I felt very bad. I did not meet him when he was alive, and I wanted to meet him with an Olympic medal. Sadly, he’s not among us but I hope he's seeing us from above and is happy (medal) that his dream has come true. Even other athletes like PT Usha and others who missed out on a medal by centimetres - I hope they’re all happy.”

The legends and the entire nation were indeed happy as Neeraj flew the tricolour high.

US State Department eases restrictions in new travel advisory for Pakistan 2021

The latest advisory acknowledges security situation in Pakistan safer than that in 2014

The US State Department has revised its travel advisory for Pakistan, upgrading it from "no travel" to "avoid unnecessary travels".

The revision — from level four to level three — although not a major change, is still a notable improvement.

"Pakistan’s security environment has improved since 2014 when Pakistani security forces undertook concerted counter terrorist and counter militant operations," the latest travel advisory noted.

"There are greater security resources and infrastructure in major cities, particularly Islamabad, and security forces in these areas may be more readily able to respond to an emergency compared to other areas of the country."

The advisory pointed out that "while threats still exist, terrorist attacks are rare in Islamabad."

The notification, however, urged US citizens to "reconsider travel to Pakistan due to terrorism and sectarian violence” and suggested additional caution due to Covid-19, as “some areas have increased risk.”

The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has issued a Level 2 Travel Health Notice for Pakistan, indicating a moderate level of Covid-19 in the country.

"Your risk of contracting Covid-19 and developing severe symptoms may be lower if you are fully vaccinated with a US-authorised vaccine," it added.

The State Department still urged US citizens not to travel to Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK), including the former Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA), due to terrorism and kidnapping. It also advised against traveling to the immediate vicinity of the Line of Control due to terrorism and the potential for armed conflict.

The advisory reminded American citizens that the US government had limited ability to provide emergency services in Pakistan due to the security environment. Travel by US government personnel within Pakistan remained restricted, and the US Consulate General in Peshawar does not provide consular services to US citizens.

The change in US advisory followed a visit to the United States by Pakistan’s National Security Advisor Moeed Yusuf and Director General ISI Faiz Hameed, although the development may or may not be related to the visit.

Their talks focused on Afghanistan, with US officials seeking Pakistan’s cooperation in preventing a Taliban takeover of Kabul. Pakistan not only assured Washington that it would not support a forcible takeover but also urged the Afghan government not to seek a military victory.

US officials, in briefings to the media and in speeches at think tanks, have made it clear that Washington will not accept a Taliban takeover and persuade other nations as well not to recognise such a government.

Washington has also indicated that it would discontinue its economic support to a Taliban-only government, even though the war-torn country heavily depends on US aid.

Discontinuation of economic assistance and lack of diplomatic recognition could push Afghanistan into complete isolation, creating serious problems for Pakistan as well.

Yusuf later told journalists that during his 10-day stay in Washington no US official or lawmaker asked for a military base in Pakistan. “The word base was not mentioned, not even once, during our talks, except in the media,” he said, adding: "Bases were not discussed at all from either side during this trip because we have already made our position clear. That chapter is closed."

Earlier reports in both US and Pakistani media claimed that the Biden administration was seeking military bases in Pakistan to influence developments in Afghanistan, particularly if the Taliban seized Kabul.

At recent congressional hearings, US officials did talk about using Pakistani airspace for reaching Afghanistan and having bases in the region but never mentioned asking Pakistan for a base.
